Important League Update: All Activities Suspended Until April 6

Dear Warren Park Youth Baseball Little League Families,

In setting policies and taking action related to the coronavirus, we are following guidance from Little League International, of which we have the benefit of being a chartered member, and relevant authorities including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Chicago Department of Public Health.

Little League International is providing counsel to all its chapters via communications directly to chapter leadership and to the public via the LittleLeague.org/coronavirus page on their website. Their latest update related to league activities is below:

Little League International operates more than 6,500 programs in more than 84 countries, and therefore, we recommend that our leagues exercise an abundance of caution and implement a temporary suspension of all league activities until no earlier than April 6.

As a result of this recommended suspension, WPYBLL teams, including All Stars, will not practice or hold CJAS clinics, and games will not be played until further notice. The Coaches Meeting/Town Hall has been tentatively rescheduled for April 9.

Our preparations for the season will continue and finalized rosters for Juniors, Majors, Minors and Coach Pitch teams will be shared with coaches this week, however all team activities are on hold until Little League lifts the suspension and we ensure those recommendations are in line with those of our city and state agencies.

While we are hopeful that we can open the season as planned with games the week of April 20, and a parade on April 25, it’s very likely that our game schedule will change if the suspension extends beyond April 6. We want our families to know that we are committed to providing our players with a baseball season once the suspension is lifted and we can ensure a safe experience.

The resulting season may be shorter or extend later into the summer than planned. And, we are working with the Chicago Park District on contingency plans should the season become extensively delayed. We will continue to closely monitor all information and will communicate schedule updates as they become available.

We will make every effort to (safely) enjoy our refurbished fields and new dugouts and play some baseball in Warren Park in 2020! Thank you for your understanding and rest assured we have our players’, families’ and community’s well being top of mind. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

Best regards,The Warren Park Youth Baseball Little League Board
