Volunteering
Did you know that WPYBLL is 100% VOLUNTEER RUN? We are so appreciative of the many dedicated parents that stepped up to make our 2020 season safe and enjoyable for all. We were one of the few Little League programs in the city to have a season and it was made possible by those of you that spent many hours in the park to make it happen.

WPYBLL has a volunteer requirement of 5 hours for families that wish to forgo the $50 volunteer opt out fee. We welcome those of you who wish to volunteer and receive the discounted rate.

The reality is that aside from coaching, the majority of the volunteer needs are related to field maintenance and equipment. We also have a few spots for anyone interested in helping to secure sponsorships and we have added a volunteer umpire program. Committee details included below.

Spread the Word
Please share our registration posts with your school and community Facebook groups. We also have fliers available for any businesses that wish to post one.

See you in the park in 2021!
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank ALL of you for being a community committed to the values of youth sports. We’re providing a valuable and fun experience to our baseball players, and it takes a village. We wish you a safe, healthy and joyous holiday season and look forward to seeing all of you in the park again in 2021! Let’s play some ball (ok, not yet, but you can register now)!

Warmest Wishes,
WPYBLL Board Members + Committee Leads

2021 WPYBLL VOLUNTEER COMMITTEES

Coaches + Assistant Coaches
Interested in coaching or being an assistant coach? Let us know! We have an immediate need for several more coaches and assistant coaches in all divisions.

Umpiring
Volunteers are expected to attend umpire training prior to the season beginning (typically 1 hour) and required to umpire at least 2 games (typically 1.5-2 hours each) during the season, for a total of 5 hours.

Equipment
Every team is supplied with an equipment bag that includes bats, helmets and catching gear. This gear needs to be inventoried, cleaned and stored at the end of each season.  And every spring, bags and uniforms need to be prepped and distributed to all the coaches. Field boxes and first aid kits need to be organized, inventoried and maintained. With over 40 teams in the league, this takes a league effort. Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of 5 hours of help with equipment.

Fields
The baseball fields at Warren Park are prepared by WPYBLL volunteers. The Chicago Park District oversees the park maintenance but does not prepare the fields for our games. “Getting your hands dirty” is a figure of speech for many organizations, but not ours! Help make our fields “Fields of Dreams!” Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of 5 hours of help, which may include things like dragging and/or lining fields prior to games; setting up outfield fences on Fields 4 and 5; weeding foul territory, etc. Weekday late afternoon and weekend morning availability may be required.

Sponsorships
WPYBLL loves its sponsors and relies on their generous support! Youth sports is a great way for businesses to support their communities and generate exposure and goodwill.  Help us secure additional sponsors! Volunteers are  expected to commit to a minimum of 5 hours of help identifying potential sponsor businesses and calling them to offer sponsorship packages, and related follow up.
