2020 BASEBALL REGISTRATION NOW OPEN THRU 2/1/2020
2020 is going to be a dynamite season! Thanks to generous grants from the Cubs Diamond Project, the 2020 season will feature refurbished infields with new dugouts – including concrete floors, new benches and fencing. In addition to a more comfortable experience for our players, these upgrades should result in fewer cancellations due to field conditions after the rain.
Speaking of the fields, did you know that field preparation is the work of Warren Park Youth Baseball Little League (WPYBLL) volunteers? In fact, the entire league is 100% volunteer run. And it takes A LOT of dedicated parents to make it a successful season for the nearly 500 players in the league. Many of our devoted volunteers have moved on to the big leagues (not really, their kids just aged out) and we need parents like you to jump in and get your hands dirty (for real, this is baseball). And there’s no crying!
We’ve established several committees to cover the needs across the season: Coaches (coaches and assistant coaches); Equipment (uniforms + equipment); Events (opening day, picnics, etc.); Fields (field preparation) and Sponsorships (we rely on local businesses for their support). There’s something for everyone.
You’ll notice that on this year’s registration form we’re asking families to select which committee they’d like to contribute some time to. For families that wish to opt out of this requirement, $50 is added to the registration fee. You’ll find additional information on each of the committees below. We’re still ironing out all the specifics, but the idea is to get more parents involved in a variety of ways. The more we have, the more we can do, and we’ve got ideas! Some committees will begin their work early in the new year while others are specific to the playing season. You can expect some form of follow up in February from the committee leads.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for being a community committed to the values of youth sports. We’re providing a valuable and fun experience to our baseball players, and it takes a village.
DID YOU KNOW?
WPYBLL is proud to be a chartered league under the official Little League Baseball Association (LLBA) and is the city’s largest chartered league. The Little League website is a great information resource for parents and coaches.

Coaches
Interested in coaching or being an assistant coach? Let us know! We have an immediate need for several more coaches for our coach pitch division (7-8 yrs old).
Equipment
Every team is supplied with an equipment bag that includes bats, helmets and catching gear. This gear needs to be inventoried, cleaned and stored at the end of each season (it’s a lot more fun than it sounds!). And every spring, bags and uniforms need to be prepped and distributed to all the coaches. With over 40 teams in the league, this takes a league effort. We’re hoping several parents from each division will join our Equipment Committee and help with the 2020 season equipment prep in the early spring.
Events
We get excited about our two big events each season: The opening day parade and our end of season awards picnic (plus several other smaller events). Planning, prepping and staffing events for several hundred players and their families is a lot of fun and a lot of work – join us!
Fields
The baseball fields at Warren Park are prepared by WPYBLL volunteers. The Chicago Park District oversees the park maintenance but does not prepare the fields for our baseball games. Our parent volunteers rake and line the fields and install the bases ahead of the games. “Getting your hands dirty” is a figure of speech for many organizations, but not ours! Help make our fields “Fields of Dreams!”
Sponsorships
WPYBLL loves its sponsors and relies on their generous support! Youth sports is a great way for businesses to support their communities and generate exposure and goodwill. Help us secure additional sponsors!
